Extra listening tasks from a textbook topic

Use GenAI to write extended listening items on the same topic (teacher keeps control of audio source).

ListeningHK / EDB-aligned practiceP1–P6Verified

Problem

Textbooks give limited listening items. You need more questions on the same topic, but audio quality and licensing stay your responsibility.

Who it is for

HK primary English teachers who want more listening practice on a textbook topic without handing audio generation to the AI.

Steps

  1. Name the topic and skill focus (e.g. gist, detail, infer attitude) — do not paste long copyrighted scripts.
  2. Ask AI for extra items: multiple choice, true/false, short answer.
  3. You choose or record the audio (textbook track, your voice, or approved tool).
  4. Align wording with your class level; remove culturally odd distractors.
  5. Trial once; fix ambiguous answers.

Sample prompt

EXAMPLE — edit before you use; never paste pupil names

Help me extend listening practice for primary English on this TOPIC (do not invent a copyrighted textbook script).

Topic: [e.g. ordering food at a café]
Year band: [e.g. Primary 3]
Focus: [gist / specific detail / simple inference]

Create:
- 5 multiple-choice items (3 options each)
- 3 true/false items
- 2 short-answer items
Include a teacher answer key.
Note clearly that the teacher will supply the audio. Do not claim this is an official exam paper.

Outcome

Extra listening items on your topic; you still control the audio source and final quality.
